Push Them In! As we watch companies with a web presence that were going strong suddenly go bust it has to make us pause. What happened? Some of them had millions of dollars in the bank and suddenly they're under? Allow us to speculate a little and guess that they had very poor client retention methods in place. We can spend all sorts of money getting customers to your site in the first place (see last months article) but then what?  Many visitors will purchase on their first vist, but only a handful will bookmark your site. Those just doing research will often find items of interest and bookmark you, but those bookmarks can easily be forgotten. So, what can be done to get them back to your site? Let's look at right now for an example. Are you currently on the Fortress Web site? Chances are you're reading this in your email program. We made a house call and 'pushed' this information to you. Your name is in our database and so you get our regular email newsletter. Even if you don't read every issue, our name and image is again brought to mind. You're reminded about us and will perhaps visit us again or refer us to your friends. The key in client retention is gaining permission to have regular contact. An email newsletter is the perfect way to do this. As other companies go under all around you, having a cost-effective way to keep in touch with your former clients can make the difference between staying afloat and going under. In our busy economy, push beats pull everytime! Through personal contact, print advertising and your web site, get permission to keep in contact with your visitors.
